Every brokerage has a website. And most of them provide profile pages for each of their agents. However, the broker doesn’t mention that the Realtor’s profile page actually helps the broker more than the Realtor.
Profile pages are great for real estate agents. This page allows the Realtor to show their picture, explain the services that they provide, showcase their best testimonials, list the communities that they serve, populate their listings, and display their contact information.
But how many leads do you really get from your Realtor profile page? There are probably a lot of agents at your brokerage, and they all have very similar profile pages – similar look and feel, similar communities served, and they claim that they are the best Realtor and will work hard for the client. The chances are minimal that a lead that comes to your broker’s website will choose to contact you over all of the other agents. In the internet world, there isn’t much that sets your profile page apart or makes your profile page easier to find than any other Realtor’s profile page.
On the other hand, how many leads do you think the brokerage gets from all of their agents’ profile pages? All of that content from all of the agents’ profile pages helps the brokerage’s SEO. The more agents at a brokerage with more complete profile pages results in the brokerage’s website ranking higher in the Search Engine Results Page (SERP). The truth is that your profile page helps drive leads to the brokers website, but not necessarily to your profile page.
Many Realtors consider the profile page on their brokerage’s website as “my website”. Unfortunately, any traffic that they help bring to their “website” has the opportunity to click around and land on another Realtor’s “website”, i.e. profile page.
Meanwhile, Realtors with their own personal websites (a website that is not a profile page on their broker’s website) have an advantage. Any traffic that they bring to their website is a captive audience. The Realtor’s personal website has no links to any other Realtors. Those visitors are potential leads for the Realtor, not the brokerage.
Let the leads your profile generate become your clients, and not a client of someone else in your brokerage.
